Natasha Henstridge, Conan O'Brien & Screech

I log into YouTube and what should wash up on my shore but a cod-kissing blast from the past. Check out this video of Springdale-born Natasha Henstridge screeching in Conan O'Brien on his late night talk show. This episode originally aired in 2003 when Henstridge was promoting her television series She Spies. This video was posted to YouTube yesterday by Shart1967 and has garnered over 5000 hits and numerous comments which, not surprisingly, range from pride to anger. We are nothing if not excitable. The whole thing made me start to think about the Screech-In ceremony. I took a quick look around online to try to find the origin of the Screech-In ceremony but I couldn't. If anyone knows the story1, please share. Update: John Gusue has a nice post on the appearance-- check it out. 1. Given that the NLC offers a Screech-In certificate, I suspect it has a lot more to do with marketing than tradition. I don't need last names to know who Debbie and Toni-Marie are and I can find my way from Happy Adventure to Misery Point in the fog. My morning comes a half hour earlier and any day without 'RDF' is good.
